Sunny Side Yard |
This 1850's farmhouse featured a small strip of lawn and a front-to-rear asphalt driveway. The owners wanted to create an inviting flow between indoor and outdoor living spaces, and to create a setting that better suited their home and style. The redesign incorporates garden borders, stone, wood. and brick to creates privacy, to awaken the senses, and to the match the style of the farmhouse and its occupants. At the street's edge, the tandem gravel drive eases parking and sets the stage for a simple, more informal home. An arbor and farmhouse-style fence separates the driveway from leisure space. Upon entry, the small garden and winding brick walk create a transition between public and private space, and invite you to slow down. The large brick patio, framed with a garden, lies directly off the kitchen. Views of this garden from both the kitchen and sunroom provide an ever-changing seasonal display. And so even once inside, the house gives the happy feeling of being set amidst the garden. |
